What follows is Jo’s report with a summary of what was discussed. With respect to the increased blast noise levels, it was mentioned that this seems to be produced by the bouncing effect of sound waves produced when there is a complete cloud cover. The Company has agreed to carry out tests for heavy metals, from tank water in the homes of Tabo Village. Kagara is not prepared to contribute financially to the enlargement of Return Creek bridge. The traffic on the bridge will be reduced during daily hours, due to large trucks that will be travelling at night. The problem related to dust raising from the truck parking lot next to the cattle grid, will be solved by resurfacing the area, thanks to a combined action by the company and the land owner. Jo referred to the possibility of groundwater contamination as a result of mining activities. She was assured that this is being monitored according to the requirements by the Environment Protection Agency of Queensland. Mount Garnet pit activities will finish in January 2008 and underground blasting will commence in February the same year. The underground area will reach 5000 metres below the town by October 2009 and it is expected to be finished by June 2011. However, excavations will extend to a deeper level if ore is found. There will be drilling noise at night for two to three months and some night and day development blasting will occur during the 24 hours. Kagara is cleaning the bridge twice a week and its newly acquired sweeper will soon be delivered. The company has mentioned that the capacity of the bores in our area is very limited and some have already dried up. Bore water should never be drunk without being tested. The next meeting will be held on February 2008. On Friday the 25th of May the C.W.A. Mount Garnet Branch, held their International Day. The Country this year was Denmark. The children from the school were involved by doing projects and colouring-in pictures. Their projects were judged by Vic and Brenda Sandr. Only 1st Price out of four groups was chosen: 1 Prep and Grade1, the winner being Shania Woodleigh. 2 Grade 2 and 3, the winner being Stacey Shorey. 3 Grade 4 and 5, the winner being Flyn Wallace – Gravett. 4 Grade 6 and 7 the winner being Michael Fitzgerald. These will go on to Division to be judged. We had a guest speaker from Denmark, Julia Grovessen, who was able to answer the many questions that were asked by the children. Morning tea was served to the children, then the adults. We also had a mini cent sale. The morning was enjoyed by all. We sincerely apologize for the delay in the publication of this item. *********************************************************************************** MOUNT GARNET PROGRESS ASSOCIATIONBINGOAT THE CWA HALL, 7.30 PM SHARP ON: FEBRUARY 8TH AND 22ND MARCH 8TH AND 22ND APRIL 4TH AND 19TH MAY 3RD, 17TH AND 31ST JUNE 14TH AND 28TH JULY 12TH AND 26TH AUGUST 9TH AND 23RD SEPTEMBER 6TH AND 20TH OCTOBER 4TH AND 18TH NOVEMBER 1ST, 15TH AND 29TH DECEMBER 13TH 4 X $100 AND 1 X $200 JACKPOTS LUCKY DOOR PRIZE AND RAFFLE *************************************************************** MUSIC IS GOOD FOR THE SOULAnyone who is interested in becoming part of a Mt Garnet Musical Group (instruments or singing), please register your expression of interest to: Al Gallo Email Phone 40979 010 or Sheryll (Splinters) Phone 4097 9091 Email *************************************************************** |
